Things to Do in Clare - Craggaunowen

Craggaunowen is one of the most interesting places you can visit while staying at Treacys Oakwood 4* Hotel. It is also one of the many things you can do in Co. Clare. We can assure you that you will not be bored while staying at our hotel. Ask our staff for local recommendations and they will be more than happy to assist you with planning your stay.

Known to the locals as the ‘Living Past Experience’ visiting Craggaunowen gives you a different insight into Ireland long ago. By now you may have done some medieval tours, but this attraction takes you into a different era, the ‘Celtic Ireland’. Visitors can enjoy exploring the reconstructed Crannogs (lake dwellings) and will get to see every day activities being carried out as would have been done over 1,000 years ago.

Some other important attractions not to be missed on this tour are the Brendan Boat, The Ring Fort, Fulacht Fia or the Craggaunowen Castle.

The Brendan Boat was the hide boat in which Tim Severin sailed from Ireland to the United States.  A Ring Fort is the true reproduction of a farmer's house, dating from the 4th or 5th century. The Fulacht Fia is a reconstructed cooking site which was very common throughout the country from the early Bronze Age to the Elizabethan period. You will also have the opportunity to explore the Craggaunowen Castle, the 16th century restored Medieval Castle built in 1550. Together with your kids, you will also be able to observe rare and really interesting animal breeds such as wild boar and soay sheep, specimens of the pre-historic era, during your visit.

Make Treacys Oakwood 4* Hotel your base and explore Ireland’s original and award winning Pre-historic Park. An interesting tour where you will have the opportunity to explore the roots of the people, homesteads, animals and artifacts of our Celtic ancestors of over 1,000 years ago. They all have touched and shaped how we live today.
